The North Texas Gas Crisis of 2017

The full crew is back to talk about hiding out, the North Texas Gas Crisis, hushpuppies, Comanches and much more.  Right off the bat they start off with Long John Silvers, hushpuppies and catfish restaurant talk (again).  But that doesn’t last long as Heavy attacks Gus and tries to blame him for the North Texas Gas Crisis of 2017.  Blame may be a strong word, but Heavy does believe Gus had a hand in it.  Heavy also recounts Gus and the global rice shortage many years ago.

Gus once again stresses that everyone should have at least 72 hours worth of food and water on hand for an emergency situation.  That leads to a twitter question from Tell wondering what the boys would recommend to have with them if they had to go into hiding in West Texas.  Surprisingly enough, they don’t give a straight answer and they ultimately leave out a lot things.

Gus recalls alt-country/Americana singer/songwriter Kevin Welch’s song “Wilson’s Tracks”and from there Heavy talks about how he was a house guest in the Seattle area once upon a time.  That leads to a discussion about natural resources availability and the effect that scarcity had on whether or not Native American tribes established more stable settlements which led to increased population densities.  That leads to Gus mentioning the Japanese explorer/Zunni language hypothesis which will need to be further investigated.

Ty has been reading “The Empire of the Sun and the Moon” about the Comanche nation and that leads to a lot of discussion about Comanche raiding parties during the 1700’s and 1800’s.

Heavy talks about the response to Hurricane Harvey and ties back to the Eastern Bloc with a story about his friend’s Hungarian wife and her baked bean conundrum.

They finally get back to Tell’s question but they get hung up on the “Two is One, One is None” redundant equipment philosophy.

Professor Brad – Off the Grid

This week is the much anticipated second part of the award winning face to face interview with Professor Brad where more twitter questions are answered, crazy theories are explored and Brad lays out his plan for off the grid living.

As you remember from the first part of this interview, Ty was away and the late great Heavy Longmire is lost on the prairie for all we know. But Professor Brad was kind enough to join Gustav for pseudo-intellectual mumbo jumbo.  This episode picks up with more questions submitted by our faithful listeners via Twitter, including hypotheticals (we hope) over what someone would do for a year’s supply of food or for someone’s latest book to make it to the top of  the New York Times bestseller list.

Once the Twitter questions were done, the conversation turns to submarine talk with more hypermasculinity talk as well as a couple of apochryphal stories that may or may not be true.

marfa texas off the gridFor a while, Brad had been wanting to talk to Gustav about the logistics of going off the grid.  Brad has his eyes set on the rugged scenery around Marfa, Texas.  So far Brad has a plan and a materials list, but Gus does his best to shoot holes in Brad’s dream, the way that a slightly inebriated uncle can ruin Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and a belief in fiat currency.  Gus talks a bit about his dalliance with solar power in the past and some problems that he sees with living the off the grid lifestyle in Texas.

For some reason Brad then changes the conversation to Climate Change (probably to get Gustav wound up).  The two of them then dive into talk of ice ages, pre-Columbian environmental pollution, Terrence McKenna’s theory that magic mushrooms caused the development of language, fracking earthquakes and wondering whatever happened to the hole in the ozone layer and acid rain.

So send us your emails about living in a half buried shipping container, climate change, or the first dirty joke you told your dad to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com

The Black Falconer – Part Two

Join Ty and Gustav as they bring you part two of their award winning after school special starring special guest The Black Falconer.  Heavy was busy trapping varmints, so Ty and Gus shared a special evening with K.J. from Partial Recall and the Blowout Podcast Network.

If You Want to Survive, Listen to the Black Falconer

No time for intro’s, they jump straight out of the chute with a tale of dyed pubic hair which will certainly be of interest to both men and women of every color and creed upon this blue marble that we are all living on.

Gustav recounts the Blowout One Million Download party and how everyone’s one and only was treated like a rock star when he showed up.  KJ is a bit fuzzier on events so he’s not much help as  Gus answers JJ’s tweet about the young future barrister’s dance moves.

Long time master of email Cody sends a question about a dank bag full of money which may or may not be supplied by Nigerian bankers.  We are waiting to hear back from Cody to see if we completely missed the point of the email as we spend an inordinately amount of thought on money laundering.

K.J. is also a co-host of Fuck the Walking Dead with Mike “Machine” Marshall.  With all the time he’s spent watching zombie shows, he has been thinking about post-apocalyptic survival plans.  Who better to talk about how to spend your first 36 hours after a catastrophic event than the Can You Hear Me boys?  Gustav of course has plenty to say, although he does incorrectly name a book about intentional communities and communes.  The correct name of the book is Getting Back Together and was written by Robert Houriet.

Ty and Gus would like to thank K.J. and his Landlord for their hospitality and letting them invade their deluxe apartment in the sky.

Ointments, Copays, and a Snakebite

This week’s episode begins with Gustav recounting the story of the snakebite his seven year old daughter received on Memorial Day weekend.  She’s fine now, but it was a scary weekend followed by a few days at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

The Big Toe Two Days After the Copperhead Snakebite

With all the medical talk, Heavy asks the guys to think about how fathers approach health care versus the way that mothers might.  As you can imagine, Heavy has some very specific ideas about the subject.  Along the way, Gustav gives tips for how to procure IV saline solution without a prescription for your emergency preparedness needs.  Heavy provides his own questionable tips and then shares his run in with Lyme Disease back in his scouting days.

The Juvenile Copperhead that Bit Gustav’s Daughter

An email from the Fake Bailey Jay spurs Gustav to talk about how her appearance and sweetness causes people to want to share all sorts of stories with her even though she is an introvert who doesn’t want strangers talking to her.  Fake Bailey Jay and Gustav ran the Tough Mudder in Austin and had no shortage of new friends.

The guys also talk about Heavy’s irrational dislike of anything to do with clowns, Tough Mudder, sunburns, and sunscreen.  And no episode would be complete without a walk down memory lane.  The guys babble about Buck Rogers and Silver Spoon, which both featured the super hot Erin GreyErin Gray in Buck Rogers
